ipmi-connect: A Java-free remote console for Dell and Supermicro servers
Older enterprise servers are a staple of many homelabs, but managing their baseboard management controllers in 2026 is an exercise in frustration. If you have ever tried to launch a remote console on an older Dell or Supermicro machine from a modern laptop, you know the drill: hunting down an ancient JRE, disabling modern security ciphers in configuration files, and fighting browser deprecation warnings just to see a boot prompt. To eliminate that friction, I built ipmi-connect, a standalone Go tool that acts as a Java-free remote console for Dell and Supermicro BMCs.

Recently, I caught him using #ChatGPT to help him make a "computer pet", a little character that walks around the screen. He wants to add more features and animations.He doesn't completely understand what's happening yet, but he can explain parts of the code, and he's definitely picking things up.He's using AI to troubleshoot problems, and when he gets completely stuck, he asks me for help.
